CASL YTS U9 Developmental Program Information for Fall 2010/Spring 2011:

The CASL Youth Training System (YTS) U9 Developmental Program begins its 11th year in the Fall of 2011.  The program is designed to enhance development by providing professional coaching to young soccer players who have already showed signs of becoming an ‘Elite’ level player.  YTS is geared towards the individual player’s skill and technique.  Team concepts and team results are secondary at this young age and will not be a priority.  YTS Players will train under the guidance of a CASL Program Director and Classic Coaches assigned to each of the 4 boys teams and 2 girls team in the YTS U9 program.

As stated above, the program’s goals are to help the young individual player learn and refine the basic techniques of the game and then adding and introducing advanced skills when the players show they are ready.  YTS training will include:

·      Individual ball oriented, technical training including dribbling moves, feints, and escaping from defenders, ball striking

·      The introduction of on-field positions and the skills needed to be successful in these positions

·      Teaching small groups to keep possession of the ball with the use of individual skill as well as passing and movement

·      Specialized running and coordination technique with and without the soccer ball to work on overall athleticism

The main objective of YTS is to develop a program that provides talented young players a league where the focus is not on results of the team but instead on results of the player.  The U9 YTS group will consist of boys teams and girls teams.  These teams will compete against each other and will also play games vs. CASL challenge teams as well as other local clubs in the area.

·      YTS will train twice a week and compete in the North Carolina Champions League, a local league within the triangle that will play games on the weekends

•    YTS Teams will play 6v6 and will have a roster of 10-12 players

  • The CASL Coaching Staff may use their discretion to move players to appropriate YTS program level

CASL YTS U10 Development Program Information for Fall 2010/Spring 2011:

The U10 CASL Youth Training System (YTS) is the second and final year of the YTS program.  The program is designed to enhance development by providing professional coaching to young soccer players who have already showed signs of becoming an ‘Elite’ level player.  It is a very important year for a young player’s development as they begin to transition into the classic program and will build on ideas introduced in the first year of YTS as well as introducing new advanced skills and ideas.  You DO NOT have to have played U-9 YTS in order to play U-10.  U-10 YTS is geared towards the individual player’s skill and technique.  Team concepts and team results are secondary at this young age and will not be a priority.  YTS Players will train under the guidance of a CASL Youth Director and Classic Coaches assigned to each of the boys teams and girls team in the YTS U10 program.

As stated above, the program’s goals are to help the young individual player learn and refine the basic techniques of the game and then adding and introducing advanced skills when the players show they are ready.  YTS training will include:

·     Individual ball oriented, technical training through dribbling moves, feints, and escaping from defenders as well as ball-striking and attacking movements

·     2-man combination play and the introduction of movement off the ball

·     Possession oriented games and attacking play

·     Specialized running and coordination technique with and without the soccer ball

·     The YTS U10 Developmental Program will have it’s own Youth Director and Assistant Director

  • The Youth Director will oversee the practice sessions and games for YTS Teams
  • YTS Teams will be coached by Classic Coaches
  • YTS will train 2 times a week
  • YTS will participate in the North Carolina Champions League, a local league within the triangle that will play games on the weekends
  • YTS will field a Pool of Players for the Girls and Boys.  We will field more teams if the Player Pool at Tryouts warrants more teams forming.  CASL will name the YTS Teams.
  • YTS Teams will play 8v8 and will have a roster of 12-14 players
  • Selected players will be placed evenly/equally onto YTS Teams so that there is parity in the player pool
